Content Area Video Blog

Hi Class,

This assignment will take you several hours to complete. It is important you begin this assignment asap. I would recommend that you start it this weekend.  Read all instructions on Blackboard thoroughly to make sure you complete all the steps for this assignment.  The 8th grade links in Blackboard are examples of former students work that received an A.  Make sure you pick videos that are appropriate and related to the objective found in the TEKS (http://www.tea.state.tx.us/index2.aspx?id=6148&menu_id=720&menu_id2=785).  Be sure to pick the grade level and subject that you plan to teach for this assignment. If you are having a hard time finding videos for your grade level and subject, please pick a different subject.

Here is a great link to learn more about CAVB and view more examples:

Autobiography Project

Hi Class:

Everyone should be working diligently on their Autobiography Video Projects. We are positive that everyone should be more familiar with one of the following programs: Windows Movie Maker 2.6, Windows Live Movie Maker or iMovie. Please e-mail Mr. McGilvery (cmcgilvery@angelo.edu) if you would like a tutorial on any of these programs. He will be available on Skype for tutorials until February 28, 2011 so please schedule your appointment if needed.  This will give you a couple of days to work on the project individually to complete it prior to March 1.

There are examples of Autobiography videos on our class blog. In addition to the examples, there is a video in the instructions folder on Blackboard to help you become familiar with Windows Movie Maker 2.6. Do not wait to the last minute to complete this assignment as it will take several days to complete. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to post them on our facebook page.

Have a great week!

PowerPoint on promoting and modeling digital citizenship and responsibility

Hi Class:
The upcoming assignment on creating your very own powerpoint to promote and model digital citizenship and responsibility will be due soon. It's important that you gear this powerpoint for students. Act like you already a teacher who is creating a powerpoint to go over your computer usage rules.  Please do not use book/text language.  Talk in the language of your students.  Below is a great example:

Ms. Gierke's Reflection #1 Example

Welcome to ED2323. My name is Diane Gierke. This is an example of the Reflection #1assignment that you will need to post to your Blog page.

I graduated from the University of Arizona in Tucson Arizona with a Master's degree in Teaching Teacher Education. I have taught at the college level for 25 years. I taught this course for the first time in the fall 2011 semester. This class is definitely a fun class and I hope you will learn a lot of new technologies that you can apply to your own teaching career. It is a fun class, so don't be afraid to be creative and go above and beyond the requirements. Also, don't be afraid to ask questions.

A little about me personally. I have a husband of 30 years and two children. However, they are not kids anymore. My daughter is married and is a teacher and coach. She participated in basketball and track at ASU after high school. She is going to make me a grandmother for the first time at the end of March (very excited about that). My son just finished his college football career this last fall. So, my life revolves around my family and their activities. We enjoy all outdoor activities as a family. We also have a ranch so we enjoy our horses, cows, goats and wildlife.

I am very excited about this course. Remember to enjoy trying all the new technologies and look for ways you can really use these in your classroom. I think your students would also enjoy using some of these technologies in projects in your class.

Be sure to read all step-by-step directions in Blackboard, post any questions as a comment on our Facebook page under the correct topic, and view the class Blog page for hints and examples of assignments.

Remember that you can work ahead as all assignments are available for you. Watch those due dates and write them in a planner or calendar so you won't miss an assignment. Start early so if you have problems, we can help you before the deadline.

Have a great semester!
Diane Gierke

PS: Listen to this Voki and consider creating one for yourself for your first reflection.

Mr. McGilvery's Reflection #1 Example

Hi Class,

This is an example of reflection one. Please make sure you read the instructions on blackboard to ensure you meet all the requirements.

Hello All,

My name is Chris McGilvery and I am one of the faculty members for ED 2323. I also teach several secondary education courses.  If you are pursuing a secondary certification, I will most definitely have you for another education class.  I was born in San Antonio, Texas, but moved all over growing up because my father was in the Air Force.  I've lived in Texas, Philippines, California, and Hawaii. My wife and I recently moved to Dominica for her education, which is located in the Lesser Antilles of the caribbean. It's a beautiful island.  We sure do miss Texas though. We are both alumni of ASU.  It's a great school and I am excited to be back as a faculty member.  There are many reasons why I wanted to become a teacher, but now that I have been in the education field for several years I have narrowed it down. My passion for teaching comes from my desire to help others realize their potential.  I hope to help you realize your potential to be a great educator that can make an impact on many lives.  My Skype username is chrismcgilvery.  Please make sure you add me if you are taking my section of ED2323.  The image you are seeing is a beautiful sunset in Dominica.  Here's to a great semester!

Kind Regards,

Chris McGilvery

Blog and Facebook Information

Hi Class,

Welcome to the class blog. As soon as you create your blog account using your Angelo State University e-mail (RamMail), please join this site (aka ‘following’). The reason you MUST use your ASU e-mail is to allow your group members to add you as a reader to access others’ blogs. Be sure to follow each person in your group. Do not forget to add your instructor to your blog, as we need to have access to it for grading purposes. If you are enrolled in Mr. McGilvery’s ED2323 section, his e-mail is cmcgilvery@angelo.edu. If you are enrolled in Mrs. Gierke’s ED2323 section, her e-mail is diane.gierke@angelo.edu. This blog will be used to post information about upcoming assignment (i.e. reminder of requirements and helpful tips).

As you begin this course, please know we are here to help guide and support you. If you have any questions, please feel free to post a question on our ED2323 Facebook page. We are going to use Facebook as our question and answer platform. It is highly recommended that you like ED2323 on Facebook to keep up to date with assignment reminders and post any questions or answers you might have on any particular assignments. Click on the link on the right of this blog page to like ED2323 on Facebook. I will post a status that will briefly state the assignment and make it available for students to post questions pertaining to the assignment. If you happen to read another student’s question and know the answer, feel free to respond to them on the comment thread. One of the main reasons I will be using Facebook as a question and answer forum is that many students will have the same questions on an assignment, and this will reduce time spent responding to several e-mails with the same answer. Be sure to check your e-mail, blog, Facebook, and Blackboard daily as there may be new messages pertaining to this course
